Thai Professors Visit NMU

Two professors from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) in Thailand visited Northern this semester as part of a faculty exchange facilitated by Bill Ball (Political Science). NMU recently signed a general cooperative agreement with STOU.

Achara Cheewatragoongit and Waraporn Rungreungkolkich (pictured) teach economics and political science, respectively, at the Bangkok institution.

The duo came to NMU to share their academic expertise and perspective and to learn about the programs at Northern. "People have been helpful and friendly," said Cheewatragoongit of her first impressions of Marquette. “NMU has a beautiful view. NMU is a beautiful university.”

Rungreungkolkich added, "It is a good experience to exchange professors."

STOU is one of two open universities in Thailand and the first in Southeast Asia to use a distance teaching/learning system.
