Achievements

Sheri Giordana (Nursing) was nominated and then appointed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm to be a member of the Michigan Department of Community Health's (MDCH) Task Force on Nursing Education. This group's charge is to make recommendations to the director of MDCH regarding needed changes in statutes, rules and policies in order to enhance the education of licensed nurses and expand the capacity of the nursing education system in Michigan.

Julie Rochester (Health, Physical Education and Recreation) was selected to attend the NCAA Division II Faculty Athletic Representative Fellowship Program. Attendees were engaged in activities to help clarify their roles and critical functions as Division II faculty athletic representatives at the campus and conference levels. They developed leadership skills to better carry out these functions, had an opportunity to network with other representatives from across the country, and developed tools and documents, as well as a set of best practices, related to the role of the faculty athletic representative.

Kerri Schuiling (Nursing) was nominated and elected president of the Michigan Association of Colleges of Nursing (MACN). MACN is made up of the deans of all baccalaureate and higher nursing programs and is one of the primary voices to state and federal legislators and policy makers about baccalaureate and higher nursing education.
