Dwight Brady (CAPS) has been appointed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm to serve on the Michigan Climate Action Council. "We have been charged with providing actionable recommendations addressing climate change to the Department of Environmental Quality," he said. "NMU is among only four universities represented on this council. The others are the [University of Michigan], MSU and GVSU." According to a news release from the governor's office, the council is comprised of 35 representatives from higher education, industry, environmental organizations, public interest groups, utilities and state/local government. They will submit an interim report outlining proposals for short-, mid- and long-term greenhouse gas emission reduction goals by April 30. A final report with a detailed analysis of specific recommendations is due by Dec. 31. In her executive order creating the council, Granholm also called for a 10 percent reduction in energy use by state departments by the end of the year.
