Nutcracker Fantasy Dec. 2

The NMU Dance Company will present a unique twist on a classic holiday tale with its upcoming production of The Nutcracker Fantasy.

The cast is composed of 130 dancers from NMU and the MacGregor School of Pipe and Dance.

Choreographer Deborah Choszczyk (HPER) maintains the storyline of the traditional ballet, in which Clara receives a nutcracker doll during a Christmas party. After the party, the nutcracker comes to life and battles goblins before taking Clara to the land of dreams.

The show departs from the original by being set in the Renaissance time period and featuring an enchanted forest, acrobats and a wizard.

“This production should not be missed by the children of our community," Choszczyk said. "It was created with them in mind with the hope that the variety of dance they see on stage will open their minds to dance, theater and their dreams.”

Performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Kaufman Auditorium.

Tickets are on sale at all EZ Ticket Outlets and at the door. The student price is $5 and adult tickets are $10.
