TCF Sponsors 'Make a Difference Day'

TCF National Bank, which recently opened a branch in the University Center, donated $2,600 to become a full financial partner in the 16th annual "Make a Difference Day." The support will enable the NMU Volunteer Center to expand and improve the local event, which is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21.

"It is wonderful when an area business recognizes the positive impact 'Make a Difference Day' has on local communities," said Brianne Rogers, Volunteer Center coordinator. "Without sponsors’ contributions, we would not be able to continue to plan and execute this event."

Other sponsors include the Volunteer Coordinators of Marquette County, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 44 and We Energies.

Created in 1990, "Make a Difference Day" is a national event celebrating neighbors helping neighbors. Locally, an average of 600 volunteers rake leaves and do other chores for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities throughout Marquette County.

Interested individuals or groups that would like to participate in "Make a Difference Day" should contact the NMU Volunteer Center at ext. 2466 or volctr@nmu.edu by Monday, October 9.  Breakfast and free t-shirts are provided to volunteers the day of the event while supplies last.
