Patience Auditions Jan. 28

Auditions for the NMU production of the Gilbert and Sullivan opera Patience will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in room 250 of Thomas Fine Arts. They are open to NMU students and employees, as well as the general public.

Patience satirizes the artistic movement of the 1870s and 1880s. It tells the story of two contrasting aesthetic poets who are sought after by every well-born woman in the village, but end up falling in love with Patience, a simple milkmaid who cares nothing for poetry.

Auditions may include anything that demonstrates vocal quality, clear diction and the ability to project vivid characterization. If auditioning for a named role, specific excerpts from the show are preferred, but not required. Performances are scheduled May 18-20.

Names of the selections, printable music, and mp3 files of the songs may be found at Audition Materials. Plot and character backgrounds can be found at Patience. For more information, contact director Rob Engelhart (Music) at ext. 1038.
