Achievements

Laura Soldner (English) received the Executive Director's Adviser of the Year Award from Alpha Lambda Delta, the national freshman honor society for students earning a 3.5 or higher GPA. She was recognized at the organization's national conference in Nashville, held Oct. 28-30. Soldner advises the newly formed ALD chapter at NMU with colleague William Knox.

Wayne Taylor, a secondary English education major, participated in the "Teachers for a Dream" program sponsored by the Michigan Council of Teachers of English. He attended the MCTE annual conference Oct. 8, where he participated in workshops on literature and the teaching of English, interacted with English teachers and college students, and was recognized at the luncheon with other Dream Team members. Taylor will write a paper for presentation or publication as part of his participation in the 2005 MCTE Dream Team.

Finn Grand Fest 2005 received a Cool U.P. Tourism Event Award at the Cool U.P. Summit Oct. 17. The festival was held in August at NMU, and many faculty and staff volunteered to help with the event.
