Don
Faust (Mathematics and Computer Science) presented two
papers at conferences in China: “Some Observations on the Evolution
of Logical Empiricism: Perspectives using Evidence Logic” at the
22nd International Congress of History of Science, July 24-30 in
Beijing; and “The Question of the Origin of the Choice of Radix
Sixty in the Ancient Near East AND Pairing-generated Counter Sets
in China and America” at the first International Conference on History
of the Exact Sciences along the Silk Road, July 31 through Aug.
3 in Xian. He also gave lectures from mid-May through mid-July at
INTI College and at the Science University in Malaysia, and at the
University of Syiah Kuala in Banda Aceh on the island of Sumatra
in Indonesia.

Les Wong served on a panel that discussed
"Best Practices in Developing Study-Abroad Opportunities"
at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU)
Summer Council of Presidents in Montreal, Quebec, July 24-27.
Eight NMU
faculty and staff presented at the Council for the Advancement and
Support of Education (CASE) media fellowship program held at NMU
Aug. 17-18. The program was designed to help media cultivate stories
on the topic of aging. Presenters were: Patricia Cianciolo
(Sociology and Social Work), Helen Kahn (Communication
Disorders), April Lindala (Center for Native American
Studies), Michael Loukinen (Sociology and Social
Work), Cynthia Prosen (Graduate
Studies, Research and Continuing Education), Mary Jane Tremethick
(HPER), Cheryl Turton (Nursing) and Suzanne
Williams (Chemistry).
