Commencement Speaker Announced

T. Dennis George, a business attorney and NMU alumnus, will deliver the keynote address and receive an honorary doctor of science degree at the May 7 commencement ceremony.

Since 2003, George has operated his own private law practice in Seattle , Wash. He specializes in business counseling, litigation, mediation and arbitration. He handles matters relating to responsibilities and liability of corporate directors and officers, and business negotiations and transactions.

George also deals with contracts and other issues related to biotechnology. He previously worked in the biotech industry as senior vice president of corporate affairs, general counsel and corporate secretary for the Seattle-based Dendreon Corp.

After graduating from NMU with a bachelor of science degree in 1960, George spent three years as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps before completing his juris doctorate at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1966.

George was previously honored by Northern with a Distinguished Alumni Award. He has served as an executive in residence for the College of Business and as a member of the strategic planning committee for the NMU Foundation.   

In his free time, George plays soccer for the Madison Park Rainstorm over-50s team. He was also active for many years at the youth soccer level in various administrative and coaching capacities.

NMU's commencement ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Superior Dome. It will be broadcast live on Public TV 13.
