NMU
Dance Students Perform
Fifty-three
Northern Michigan University students (some of whom are pictured
at left) enrolled in either ballet II, modern or advanced dance
technique classes will perform on Friday, April 29. The event will
be held at 5 p.m. in room 130 of the PEIF. The public is invited
to attend free of charge.
Several
styles of dance will be incorporated into the program, which is
under the direction of Deborah Choszczyk (HPER).
The ballet II class will perform a short group ballet piece followed
by dances that some of the students choreographed on their own portraying
what ballet or dance means to them.
The
modern class will also dance as a group, followed by student-choreographed
pieces. The advanced dance technique class, which is home to the
NMU Dance Company, will display ballet, pointe, swing, modern, Scottish
Country, Highland and ancient Egyptian dances.
“They
had a choice between taking the final exam and giving a performance,
and this is what they voted on,” said Choszczyk. “I give each of
my classes this option; some performances in the past have been
off campus and have served as community service projects.”
A
silent auction will be conducted during the show as the dance students’
final fundraiser for the year. Guests are welcome to view the items
as early as 4:30 p.m. |
