Bill Bernard (Academic
Affairs), Sandra Poindexter (Business) and senior
CIS major Tim Tanis presented "Full Eradication of Social Security
Number as an Identifier - A One Year Case Study" on Oct. 22
at EDUCAUSE04 in Denver, Colo. They discussed how efforts to migrate
away from the SSN extends well beyond the student ID. The presentation
outlined the need for cross-campus participation, thorough investigation
and planning in order to identify and convert all feeder and recipient
systems to accommodate an anonymous ID.

gave a presentation titled “The Process of Becoming Our True Selves”
at the International Forum on Integrated Education and Education
Reform in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Farragh (Education)
presented “Coping with the Death of a Child” at the Michigan Counseling
Association in Detroit.
Tawni Ferrarini (Economics)
and Sandra Poindexter (Business) presented "A
Five-Year Study on Faculty Adoption of Internet Integration: Uses,
Motivators and Hindrances" on Oct. 20 at EDUCAUSE04 in Denver,
Colo. They distributed results of a five-year, cross-disciplinary
study at NMU for interpretation and discussion. It addressed such
issues as the role of policy; motivation for faculty to use the
Web for course communication, management and supplements; and reasons
why other faculty are reluctant to incorporate technology.
Ken
King (Education) gave
a presentation titled “Developing Geographic Knowledge Through Science-Technology-Society
Activities” at the National Council for Geographic Education Annual
Conference in Kansas City, Mo. He also presented “Performance-based
Assessment: Studies in Force and Motion for Elementary School Teachers”
twice at the Nebraska Association of Science Teachers Annual Conference
in Fremont, Neb.
Chuck
Salmons (English) gave
a presentation titled “Multimedia and Pop Culture Go to College”
at the Michigan Council of Teachers of English Conference in Lansing.
He covered the use of multimedia and pop culture in the EN111 classroom.
