Public
TV 13 Earns Emmy Nominations
Two
Public TV 13 productions have earned Emmy nominations from the National
Television Academy's Michigan Chapter.
An
Evening with the Governor received a nod in the category of
outstanding interview/discussion. Produced by Bob Thompson,
the program was a live town-hall meeting held in November that featured
Gov. Jennifer Granholm interacting with a studio audience. Lumberjack
Life: U.P. Days of Yore, produced by Sonya Chrisman,
is in contention for outstanding documentary. It chronicles the
history of logging in the Upper Peninsula.
“Our
names may appear on the nomination form as producers, but both of
these programs were team efforts,” Chrisman said. “Bob and I could
not have pulled these off without the help of the talented staff
at TV 13.”
Eric
Smith, future general manager of the station, added, “What
makes these awards so coveted is that we are competing not just
with stations in a similar market size, but stations from across
Michigan. Even if we don't win the Emmys, just receiving nominations
is an honor. We were competing against hundreds of other programs
just to get this far."
Winners
will be announced during the 26th Annual Emmy Awards Gala on June
5 in Detroit.
