Neil Cumberlidge (Biology) has written a book chapter on the freshwater crabs of Madagascar , a “zoologically unique island that is home to some of the world’s most interesting and threatened organisms.” It appears in The Natural History of Madagascar. Cumberlidge was invited to contribute the section after he published a major new taxonomic revision of the crabs. His co-author was Richard Sternberg of the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution. Cumberlidge has acquired more than 100 specimens from Madagascar on loan from the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago .

An article by Kia Jane Richmond (English) titled, “Sharing the Journey: New Teachers in Michigan Reflect on Their Experiences,” was published in the Language Arts Journal of Michigan . Richmond interviewed several new English teachers for the article, including NMU alumna Margaret (Eppinga) Fierstine.
