March
Signals Start of Job Fair Season
The
NMU JOBSearch
Center
has scheduled four employment/career
fairs this semester for NMU students and alumni. They include a
new ITV Nursing Job Fair that will use distance education technology
and facilities to make the initial contact between NMU nursing students
and prospective employers as convenient and cost-efficient as possible.
“Participating
in the distance nursing job fair will benefit both the healthcare
organizations and students by saving them money on travel costs,”
said John Frick ( JOBSearch
Center
). “This is NMU’s way of addressing
the critical need for nurses in Michigan
. We are hoping to make this
an annual event in order to help our nursing students secure the
positions, externships and other opportunities they desire. We hope
to expand this fair to include at least 10 organizations next year.”
The
ITV Nursing Job Fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday,
April 5, in the Bresnan Classroom in New Science (room 2810). Sessions
featuring individual health care organizations will be scheduled
on the hour so that students can attend one or all, based on their
geographical areas of interest.
Three
hospitals confirmed to take part in this inaugural effort, followed
by their tentative times, are: Oakwood Healthcare Systems in Detroit,
9 a.m. ; Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill., 10 a.m.;
and the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, 11 a.m.
Additional employers will be scheduled at a later date. Each participating
hospital will provide a brief overview of career possibilities followed
by a question-and-answer period with instructions on how to finalize
an application.
