New
Service Matches Students, Alumni with Michigan
Employers
The
NMU JOBSearch
Center
has joined an effort to help
students and alumni from the state’s 15 universities find employment
with Michigan
companies.
An
online career resource center, University-Talent.com, allows individuals
to create a profile identifying their skills, experiences and interests.
In turn, Michigan
employers post job openings and use a software program to search
for qualified candidates whose profiles match available positions.
There is no cost for either service. The site features full-time,
part-time, seasonal and non-profit opportunities, as well as internships,
at more than 20,000 Michigan
companies.
“This
is another tool that our students and alumni can use in seeking
employment,” said John Frick ( JOBSearch
Center
). “It is unique in that it is
specifically designed to prevent Michigan
university graduates from having
to leave the state, which supports the governor’s focus on job creation
and economic development.”
NMU
students and alumni can gain access to the service by clicking on
the University-Talent link at NMU
JOBSearch.
An
added benefit of the service is that every time a job seeker accepts
an interview invitation from an employer in the online database,
his or her university receives a financial donation from Talentology,
the parent company of University-Talent.com.
“If
donations do occur, they will be forwarded to the Development Fund
in support of scholarships for NMU students,” Frick said.
University-Talent.com
is supported by the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and many local
chambers of commerce.
