Ada Burt Vielmetti University Health Center

The Health Center provides comprehensive outpatient primary care services to students, spouses, university employees, and their families. Services provided include urgent care for infections and injuries, continuing care for chronic illnesses, contraception and preventive medical exams.  The Health Center staff includes a Board-Certified Internal Medicine Specialist, Family Practitioner and Nurse Practitioners.  Referrals to subspecialists are available.

The Health Center also conducts a variety of preventive medicine and health promotion activities for the campus community.  These include cholesterol screening, smoking cessation groups, hypertension detection programs, and sexually transmitted disease awareness and prevention programming.  The Health Center is a Michigan Department of Public Health accredited HIV/AIDS counseling and testing facility.

The Health Center is funded by a tuition and fee allocation and modest user fees.  Payment is not required at the time of service.  The Health Center participates in Blue Cross/Blue Shield.  A billing statement suitable for submission to other insurance carriers is provided at the time of service.

A university approved Student Health and Accident Insurance plan is available which covers most Health Center fees.  This year-round plan also covers major illness and injuries requiring hospitalization.  Students not covered by their parent's or spouse's insurance are urged to give serious consideration to this insurance.  This insurance plan is required for all international students.

Students under 18 years of age must have a parental consent form on file at the Health Center prior to registration.  This form may be obtained from the Health Center.

Appointments can be made by calling 906-227-2355 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by visiting the Health Center in Gries Hall.  Same day appointments are usually available.  A physician is on call 24 hours a day and can be contacted through the Marquette General Hospital switchboard.
