The Jacobetti Complex

Jacobetti ComplexLocated north of NMU’s main campus, the center offers a variety of professional technical classes and labs in a nearly five-acre-size building. It’s home to the School of Technology and Applied Sciences, which includes two departments: Engineering Technology and Technology and Occupational Sciences. Students learn skills in the culinary arts, cosmetology, automotive repair, aviation maintenance, construction management, building technology, electronics, engineering, industrial technology, hospitality management, plastics injection and the skilled trades. The Workforce Development Institute offers continuing education in industrial components, electrical systems and mathematics, computer applications, and management. Vocational Support Services and a branch of the Academic Career Advisement Center are also located in Jacobetti, in addition to UP North Films, specializing in documentary filmmaking.

A large lobby area, known as “the commons,” provides tables and seating for studying, discussions or enjoying food from the student-run Culinary Café. The upscale Chez Nous restaurant in the center serves as a training ground for cooking and hospitality services. Head Start preschool is also held here, providing students with early child-care experience.

The center is named for longtime Upper Peninsula State Representative Dominic J. Jacobetti.
